The film released in the theatres on October 6. It is produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh and Ajay Kapoor. The film is based on the true life event of the late Jaswant Singh Gill, who led India's first successful coal mine rescue mission in 1989 in West Bengal.
Mission Raniganj is about 71 miners who were trapped three hundred and fifty feet below the coal mine and this Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill who was an engineer and was there at that time.He led India's first successful coal mine rescue mission.
Akshay Kumar portrayed the role of Jaswant Singh Gill, a real-life unsung hero. Parineeti Chopra was cast opposite Kumar.Actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya was cast in a pivotal role.The film was initially titled Capsule Gill, which was later changed to The Mission Raniganj:Great Indian Rescue
The film’s budget was reported to be Rs 55 crore.Mission Raniganj has earned just around 31 crores net at the Indian box office. In gross, it equals 36.58 crores and The total collection is ₹45.66 crore.Despite of mixed to positive reviews from critics, the film was a box office failure.
