Veteran Journalist Anil Barua passes away

Veteran journalist from Assam and former editor of Dainik Assam Anil Baruah passed away in Guwahati on Tuesday. The news of his demise sent shockwaves through the journalistic community and media.

Born in 1939, Anil Baruah dedicated his life to the journalistic field and played a pivotal role in Assam media. He leaves behind his wife Jaya Boruah, three daughters, grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

He joined Dainik Assam in 1965 and retired as the editor of the newspaper in 2001. After that he joined Dainik Batori as Editor for a brief period. He was a regular columnist in various newspapers till the time of his death.

Anil Baruah breathed his last at the Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati at around 6:50 pm. He was 84 years and  he was suffering from a heart disease. He was reportedly admitted at the Nemcare Hospital.

Barua received a number of awards including the Assam government’s Republic Day Journalism Award 2022. He always stood for the professional integrity, social commitment and unparallel patriotism.

Adored with love and respect from all sections in society. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Share condoled the death of journalist saying it is an loss to the media and social sector of the state.
